Chapter 10. Restless
Mira turned her face away. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she whispered. “And I don’t want to know.”
Kaelen’s voice softened. “I’m not here to hurt you.”
She looked at him again.
“I’m the Alpha,” he continued. “My pack—we’re wanderers. We find wolves on the edge. Ones being hunted. We help them. We give them a way back.”
Her voice was barely audible. “I’m not a wolf.”
He didn’t argue.
But he didn’t believe her either.
He finished wrapping her leg, then rose. “Rest. You’re staying here tonight.”
Her head snapped up. “No—I have to go. Martha—”
“You should’ve worried about Martha before sneaking out in the middle of the night.” His tone sharpened.
She froze, guilt tightening around her ribs.
At the tent flap, Kaelen paused.
“I’ll send someone to let her know you’re safe, if she’s awake. Tomorrow, I’ll take you home.”
He didn’t look back as he left.
But Mira didn’t sleep.
She lay curled
