We waited for about five minutes, Brigitte coming back alone, with Alicia’s clothes folded up which she stuck in her knapsack. Bonnie wanted to ask a question, but Brigitte told her to can it. About fifteen minutes more into our hike, a wolf howled in the distance. Brigitte got an expression of total satisfaction on her face. Three minutes later, two more wolves howled. The other hikers on the trail got worried. I wondered when was the last time anyone saw a wolf in Zion, and I’d just heard three of them. I could tell from their voices they were all different. I assumed the first one was Alicia. Who knew who the other two were.
