Chapter 4. Lily’s Thought
As they walked, Lily thought about the werewolf they had just met and the strange feelings he had stirred in her. She couldn’t explain it, but she felt drawn to him, as if there was some kind of connection between them.
Caleb noticed Lily’s distracted expression and stopped walking. “What’s wrong?” he asked, putting a hand on her shoulder.
Lily shook her head, trying to push the thoughts of the werewolf out of her mind. “Nothing, I’m just tired. It’s been a long night.”
Caleb looked at her skeptically but didn’t press the issue. “Yeah, you’re right. Let’s get some rest.”
They continued walking in silence until they reached Caleb’s house. Caleb opened the door and gestured for Lily to go inside.
Lily walked into the living room, collapsing onto the couch. She looked up at Caleb, who was staring out the window, lost in thought.
“What are you going to do?” Lily asked, breaking the silence.
Caleb turned to her, his eyes serious. “I don’t know yet. But we need to be careful. I don’t trust that werewolf, and I don’t want to put our pack in danger.”
Lily nodded, understanding his concerns. “But what if they really are in trouble? What if they need our help?”
Caleb sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I know, but we can’t just jump into this blindly. We need to do some investigating, find out what’s really going on.”
Lily nodded again, feeling a sense of unease settle in her stomach. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen, that they were walking into a trap.
“What if it’s a trap?” she asked, voicing her concerns.
Caleb looked at her, his eyes full of concern. “I’ve been thinking about that too. That’s why we need to be careful. We’ll gather some intel, talk to some contacts, and see if we can get more information about this rival pack.”
Lily nodded, feeling a little better. She trusted Caleb, and she knew that he would do everything in his power to protect his pack.
“What can I do to help?” she asked, wanting to be involved.
Caleb smiled, grateful for her offer. “Actually, there is something you can do. I need you to talk to your friend Sarah. She knows a lot about the supernatural world, and I think she could help us.”
Lily nodded, feeling a sense of relief. She had been feeling useless like she wasn’t contributing anything to the pack. But now she had a task, something to focus on.
“I’ll talk to her first thing in the morning,” she said, feeling a sense of purpose.
Caleb smiled again, looking at her with admiration. “You’re a natural leader, Lily. You have a way of bringing people together.”
Lily blushed, feeling a surge of pride. She had always been a bit of a loner, but since she had met Caleb and joined his pack, she had found a sense of belonging.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, lost in thought. Lily couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen, that they were walking into a dangerous situation.
Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the door, making them both jump. Caleb got up, his body tense, and walked towards the door.
Lily sat frozen on the couch, her heart pounding. She didn’t know who could be at the door, but she had a feeling that it wasn’t good.
Caleb opened the door, and Lily heard a deep voice say, “Caleb, we need to talk.”
Lily stood up, her body shaking. She recognized the voice, and she knew that their troubles were only just beginning.
