Chapter 51. Spilled Secrets

Teyana’s POV

The lump in my throat suddenly felt heavy to swallow. I needed no one to tell me that Maxton was the same boy Zayne told me he had accidentally killed.

“I’m so sorry…what happened to him?” I asked, voice shaky.

Aiden’s gaze was fixed somewhere distant now. As if he was unraveling memories.

“He was a lord too. Jeremy trained him.” I listened, waiting to hear more. “Zayne trained me.” He added, meeting my eyes. My pulse thudded in my ears as anticipation filled me.

“So what happened?”

“We were just new lords then. Maxton and I. Bike racing was part of every lord’s initiation.” I took in a sharp breath. He continued, “The lords take turns to train the newbies. In Max and I’s case, it was Jeremy and Zayne’s turn to train. The first initiation…” He paused, an emotion I didn’t recognize flickering in his eyes.

“The first initiation was brutal…but we survived it.” Survived? That didn’t sound good.

“Well, to cut the long st
