Chapter 73. Strange Ties

Teyana’s POV

Two days later, I finally felt like breathing again. I drove to school that morning in my new car. I loved this car a lot, but the fact that it reminds me of him didn’t help.

I had lied to my mother that I bought it myself and to any other person that had cared to notice it.

She didn’t question it much, and I was thankful she didn’t.

The past few days had been calmer. My mind still returned to that day at the hospital sometimes, but the ache wasn’t as sharp as it used to be. Zayne had been texting me more often, checking in, teasing me a little, sometimes just sending one-line messages that somehow made me smile.

For once, I didn’t feel like I was sneaking around or betraying anyone. It was just easy being with him. Easy in a way that didn’t make me feel guilty or wrong. Yet, the initiation party lurked somewhere heavily behind my mind. I sighed.

The morning sun was soft, scattering across the driveway as I pulled into campus.
