Chapter 4

Eternity’s POV

It’s been two weeks since I started working here at The Knight Industries.

I must say, I enjoy my work here. I mean, everyone is so friendly here with me except that arrogant Aaron Knight, owner and CEO of The Knight Industries.

Avery, the receptionist whom I met on the first day, also ended up being my good friend.

So, now I have a really interesting and amazing workplace.

Well, before coming, I always buy coffee.

One for Mrs. Cary, one for receptionist Avery, and, of course, one for me. It’s become my daily routine.

I am wearing a black dress reaching below my thighs and wearing a white jacket above it with black boots. I tie my long brown hair into a ponytail.

I am just getting away from the cafe, grabbing a packet with three cups of coffee.

Before I can make it toward the skyscraper of The Knight Industries, I see a man with his face covered with a cap of his black hoodie.

He hands me a brown folder and says, “Keep it.”

“What is this?” I ask as I tilt my head quizzically.

But he speaks nothing and rapidly goes away from me. I stand there with a small gasp and stare at the folder.

“What was that for?” I whisper and then decide that I should open this folder when I reach the office.

I come to the skyscraper of The Knight Industries. Then I put a cup of coffee on Avery’s desk.

She smiles at me. “Eter, you don’t need to,” she says.

“Come on, at least this I can do for my good friend,” I say to her.

Then I put coffee at Mrs. Cary’s, head of my department, office.

“Thank you, dear,” she says kindly to me.

I speak with her with a dazed look of bewilderment because I am thinking about the brown folder in my bag which that mysterious hooded man has given me.

“What happened, dear? You seem worried,” she whispers to me.

“Nothing, just seems like I woke up too early,” I say while glancing around the room or refusing to make eye contact with her.

Then I go to my desk. I stare at that folder. I lean my head over my chair while chewing my lip and open that folder. When I open that folder, my skin gets tingly seeing what is in it.

It is confidential information about The Knight Industries, my workplace, and also some very personal information about deals that are going to be cracked by our company.

But strange, this is very confidential information, which is mainly only for the boss and owner of the company.

What is this doing to me, and, most importantly, who was that mysterious man?

I should tell him everything.

I quickly go toward the elevator with that brown folder and go toward floor 24, the CEO’s floor. When I arrive at the CEO’s floor, I quickly go toward his office. I meet his assistant, Ancy, outside his office.

“Hey, Ancy,” I say to her.

“Oh, Eter. How are you, girl?” she says to me, smiling cheerfully.

“Yeah, can I meet Mr. Knight, please? It’s urgent,” I ask her while sweat is coming down from my forehead, as I feel tingling cramps in my stomach.

“Um, Eter. I am sorry, but Mr. Knight is not here. He is in another branch of the company, which is in California,” she says to me, smiling in apology.

“Um, OK,” I say in a low whisper while clutching that folder so tightly that I can feel my nails getting dig to do hard.

“Is there anything important you can tell me?” she says.

“N-nothing. OK, see you around,” I say to her and come out from the CEO’s floor.

***

It is an evening. I am working on the files given to me.

Someone comes and stands before my desk. It is a bodyguard.

“Excuse me, Miss Granger, you are called to the CEO’s office,” he says to me.

“OK,” I say to him, standing up and going toward the elevator.

When we arrive at Aaron’s office, I find a middle-aged man, a woman less aged than that man, and a team of at least six lawyers sitting, but my boss Aaron Knight is not there.

When they see me, that middle-aged man stands up and says: “Miss Granger, good you come. I am Coyle. Now can you please tell us where you were in the morning and who you met,” he says to me, his face having a hard expression, which means no funny business, strictly business.

“It would be great if you told me why I am being questioned,” I say matter-of-factly.

“Because of a crime investigation,” the woman, who is younger than him, says. She is shorter than him and has blonde hair, which is tied in a ponytail.

“According to surveillance and our investigation, you received a package from someone in the morning,” they look at me, and I remember the package I received in the morning from a mysterious man.

“I did receive something,” I say to them.

“Oh,” the woman says, looking at me.

“Do you have that document?” Coyle asks me.

“Yes, it is at my desk,” I say, shifting back and forth.

After a while, the guard brings that document from my desk.

When they open it, they find all the important confidential documents about The Knight Industries.

“Why would that man give these documents to you or if he has been collecting them for you?” Coyle asks me.

It’s been an hour since they started investigating me, asking questions about the incident.

I am poking my tongue lightly into my cheek and inhaling a long breath. I have already told them that I don’t know that hooded man, but they seem not to believe me.

Finally, the CEO, Aaron Knight, that arrogant jerk, shows up in an all business-like crisp, wrinkles-free suit with two men following behind him.

“Coyle, Abby,” he acknowledges them and looks at us.

His deep, crystal blue eyes stop at me. He looks at me with a straight face. His hair is messed up like he has run his hand through it because of frustration. He looks exhausted, but still, he looks so handsome.

When I look at him, I notice his clenched jaw, intense eyes, furrowed brows, and reddened skin.

“You!” he shouts at me with furrowed eyebrows and clenched teeth, making my muscles tense up and making cramps in my stomach.

It seems like I am in great deep trouble.
