Chapter 43

"Hey kids," dad greets us with a smile.

"Hi," we respond in unison and stare at them awkwardly, awaiting an explanation for what we are seeing.

"Hi Ted," Chris greets.

"Sup Chris," dad responds, doing his best to channel his inner Gen Z.

"We're expecting some very important guests so could you kids take your friends to your rooms," mom requests then pauses in her tracks.

"Who's your new friend?" She enquires.

"Oh, this is Caleb," I reply.

"Nice to finally meet you, Caleb Daniels," dad says and they shake hands.

"Thank you. This is such a lovely house, Mr—"

"Just call me Ted."

"Ted. That's a cool name."

"I know, right," dad says and they laugh.

I had no idea Caleb would hit it off so good with my parents. He always struck me as the kind of guy parents wouldn't approve of.

"You are welcome to our home, Caleb," mom says as she walks up to him and leads him further into the house. He smiles at her in response.
