Love’s POV
“Yes,” the doctor said quietly, his voice steady but heavy with implication. “If she hadn’t been taken out when she was, she would have died by drowning.”
The words echoed in my head, over and over, as though my mind refused to process them all at once. Drowning. My daughter. The officer hadn’t mentioned anything about water before—no one had. No one told us she’d been found in the river.
My legs gave out.
I collapsed into the nearest chair, my elbows braced on my knees, my hands clutching my head as if I could physically hold myself together. My chest burned with every breath I took, and my heart felt like it was tearing itself apart from the inside. I didn’t remember the last time I had prayed. I wasn’t even sure I truly believed the goddess listened anymore—but I prayed anyway.
