I had a beloved.
The thought echoed through my mind as I walked through the pulsing lights and suffocating noise of the club. It felt strange—foreign, even—to label someone that way again. Not the person I had anticipated, not the one I thought fate would eventually circle me back to, but still… I had one. He was mine. Powerful. Dangerous. Perfect in a way that terrified me.
With a terrible temper.
I sighed, letting the music vibrate through my bones as I scanned the crowded club for my next victim. Neon lights flickered overhead, casting distorted shadows across bodies pressed together in reckless abandon. The air was thick with sweat, smoke, alcohol, and desperation—an intoxicating blend that made hunting easier.
