Nicholas’s POV
Silence. There is only silence in my head. I don’t like the quiet. I don’t want it.
The mating bond between us isn’t there. I can’t feel her.
“I can’t feel you, baby,”
I whisper her name once and then twice. She doesn’t answer me or open her eyes. Her chest is not rising or falling. I stare at her again, only to notice her hair has changed. It’s not white anymore; it’s black now.

Apphia is dead. My mate is dead.
I shake her many times, hoping she’ll startle awake, but she doesn’t. I bury my face in the croak of her neck. A heavy sob escapes my mouth, and torrents of tears leave my eyes. I scream.
My parents and siblings are here. There is talking, but I can’t hear anything past my screams and Nico’s whimpering.
Someone is trying to haul me away from my mate, but I’m not letting go. I can’t and won’t. I wouldn’t.
A blinding white light suddenly fills the lake
