Chapter 16. You Belong with Me
Evelyn
As Jacob moved to strike, I clutched his hand, exerting every ounce of strength to hold him back.
“Don’t hold me back, Evelyn. This bastard deserves it!”
“Yes, indeed. Please, you’re most welcome,” Tyler drawled, taking a drag from his cigarette, his smirk unwavering. He made no move to free himself.
“Please, Jacob. For me—please, stop,” I wrapped my arms around him from behind, my voice quivering, my eyes shut tight.
I felt lost, unsure of what to do. All I knew was I couldn’t bear to witness Jacob hurting anyone, especially this guy who clearly goaded him. Tyler had tarnished Jacob’s reputation before, and now he was at it again—his game plan was evident.
“Evelyn, let me—”
“Please…” I held him tighter, my voice trembling. “For me, Jacob. Don’t do this.”
I sensed Jacob inhaling deeply before slowly releasing Tyler’s collar.
“Leave, Tyler,” Jacob uttered quietly, struggling to maintain his composure.
