Chapter 142. Bonds of Friendship
Manuela
After Adriel's visit, a flood of emotions overwhelmed me. I felt shaken, reliving old wounds with his presence. I couldn't open myself up to a new beginning; I was stuck in the hurts of our past. I silently thanked the nurse for her interruption, which came as a relief, breaking the tense moment. I couldn't allow myself to believe Adriel's words again. Soon, I scolded myself for this, realizing he hadn't promised anything, and only expressed his concern about what happened, probably feeling guilty in some way since he was intimately involved when he took me into his home. I was tormenting myself for no reason.
The next visitors were Cecília and Liam, who were overflowing with concern for me. Cecília, with tears in her eyes, celebrated my recovery and expressed how scared she was about everything that happened.
“I was so worried! You have no idea what a relief it is to see you awake and well,” said Cecília, holding my hands affectionately.
