Chapter 6

Cara's POV

"Cara!," I heard Rollins call as he got closer. I managed to stand to my feet, but it took a moment for me to realize I was still in the woods.

"Rollins, down here," I called back, and he was by my side in the next moment.

He stared at me, and for the first time, I saw a glimmer of fear in his eyes.

"You scared me, Cara. I felt your emotions through the mate bond, like you were in danger. What happened?" he asked, his hands trailing over the bruises on my face from the thorns, which were already healing up

"There was something in the woods; just now it was here. The other night, I thought I saw something; I was almost sure of it; I ignored it, but I saw it again today."

Rollins was silent. When I stared into his eyes, I saw it; he didn't believe me.

"Whatever it is, it must be gone now; I don't even hear a heartbeat."

"You don't understand; I didn't either, but I saw it; it was here."

"How does it look
