Chapter 49
Cara's POV
I watched Sophie go; I might never see her again. It seemed unfair that I couldn't tell her the truth and that she couldn't know that this was not all my fault, but I still couldn't blame her. I made her worried sick, and here I was in a fancy restaurant.
I thought about running after her; I felt like a fool for saying nothing when she asked. I could have come up with something believable, at least.
"I want to go home," I told May, abandoning my half-eating food. I stood and she followed, we walked back to the car in silence. The driver waited to open the door for me. I didn't feel comfortable with this special treatment.
"Who was she?" May asked when we drove back home. I wished we could both stay in silent, but this wasn't her fault; it was no one's fault, and I didn't need to get pissed at her for just asking a question.
