Chapter 144. That Was Enough
Ezra’s POV
The red lights from the flashing ambulance blurred in my sight as I followed the stretcher. Layla’s skin was pale, and her eyelids were trembling. I could feel my chest tightening, as if I had breathed halfway in.
“Stay with me, Layla,” I said quietly, keeping my eye focused on her. “Don’t shut your eyes, not now.”
She didn’t respond. Her head fell back a little to the side, and before I could say anything, she passed out.
“She’s got a weak pulse,” one of the paramedics yelled. “She’s lost quite a bit of blood. Let’s move.”
The back doors of the ambulance slammed shut, as I went in beside her. My hand shook as I held onto hers, the medical wrap that was on the wound was quickly turning red.
The sirens screamed through the city as we sped toward the hospital. My mind was completely running through everything—the shaking gun in Chloe’s hands, Layla’s blood pouring out of her, and the panic that I was going to lose her.
