Orion’s POV
I could feel the strangeness in the air as the door to the auction hall opened. The dimly lit hall was packed with people; a waitress came over to guide us to a table towards the back.
“Why lead us here? Is there not space at the front?” Grace questioned, her voice rising slightly, impatience threading through her words. It was clear she wasn’t pleased with the treatment we had received.
“Oh, there is no space there,” the waitress answered, her voice wavering at the end as if she understood Grace’s frustration but was powerless to change our circumstances.
I turned to Grace, raising an eyebrow, hoping to convey a silent message: Control yourself. Her demeanor sometimes took on a life of its own, and I didn’t want her to draw unnecessary attention to us.
