Chapter 168. Confessions
The shop was empty; only Carla and her brother were present. Indeed it is not very strange since with the cold winters many prefer to stay warm at home around a fireplace drinking a hot drink than to go out even for the best of books.
This day, therefore, exceptionally, there was nothing to do and I could allow myself breaks at any time. Mr. Burns was sitting checking some documents while Michaël and I were facing Carla and Johan.
I had learned about what had happened with their father and the consequences on their family and I wondered how they were doing. Indeed, and it is not at all Michaël's fault, their father, unable to find suitable investors for his activity which, according to public opinion, lacked modernism, had finally bankrupted.
They lived in a house that their father had been able to keep after the seizure of his property and every day was quite difficult because after going bankrupt the family broke up.
