Chapter 48. A Mother's Character
Renzo had finished preparing a concoction for Emma while the little girl, much smaller than children of her age if we had to compare, was in her sister's arms.
The latter could well feel the heat emanating from her sister's body and it frightened her. The temperature she felt at her touch was already such that she was suffocating so she can't even imagine what her little Emma must be feeling. But in her way of moaning, she must be in a lot of pain and it makes her want to cry.
She kissed her forehead trying to sing her lullabies but her sister continued to writhe in pain, her flushed skin making her image even more ominous.
Renzo made her drink the medicine which she imagined to be bitter given the way Emma twisted her face. But she was forced to drink it all and once done, after a few minutes, the temperature began to drop, Jeanne heaving a reassuring sigh.
Emma went back to sleep as the other people in the room were about to go home.
