Despite the huge tuition fees, Jeanne had not given up hope of putting Emma in a special school, especially when her sister came back in the evening with scratches on her face.

Every time she asked, Emma just shook her head Jeanne thought it was because both of them hadn't mastered sign language yet. It had only been two months since Doctor Valum's friend had arrived at their camp. The majority of the locals had wanted to learn because they didn't want to be left out of possible communication with Emma.
