Chapter 50. As We Burn the Night
“Just give me a kiss,” she let out a shaky laugh. “I’m going to be alright after that.”
But I just gave her a pair of glaring eyes. Yet it softened when she gave me her signature beautiful smile. “Come on, please. Just a peck? I swear it feels shit to feel this.”
The weight of my own powerlessness settled upon me like a heavy cloak. I had always been the one who fought tirelessly, who vanquished darkness and protected those in need. But here, in this moment, all my strength and valor seemed insignificant in front of Cassidy.
It was a bitter pill to swallow, yes, A humble reminder of the boundaries that stood like walls even to the mightiest of warriors.
“Okay…” I whispered and gave her what she wanted.
“Again,” she commanded.
I pressed my lips to hers, this time longer than the last.
“Again, please?” I pinched her cheek and laughed. I could no longer hold her childishness anymore. Like a child in love indeed. “That’s enough.”
