Walking toward my house after a long, hectic day, I couldn’t help but think about visiting that little café I had only managed to go to once since I arrived in this town. I needed to do something, anything, to take my mind off the fact that today was my birthday—the exact anniversary of the day my adoptive parents died.

Today hadn’t been anything special, just as I had predicted. Surprisingly, I hadn't seen either Daniel or Alexander in any of my classes.
