Maria’s knees felt weak as she found Dawson in front of her house with two men who escorted him home this morning.
“Good morning, ma’am. Is this Maria and Charles’ house?” asked Delbert, looking around the house.
Maria could only nod and pretend to hug her adopted child. Of course, she was not just upset after her adopted son didn’t come home for over a week.
If Maria seemed calm, people might assume that she was cruel and had no sympathy for the little child.
“Yes, how did you find my son? He has been missing for a week and the police couldn’t find him,” said Maria, trying to sympathize with her lost child and crouching down to match Dawson’s height.
Delbert glanced at Grandpa Jordan, as if he knew Maria was pretending to gain sympathy from others.
“Hmm, we accidentally found him on the street. It seems like he didn’t know the way home,” said Grandpa Jordan, who found Dawson.
Maria nodded in understanding, feeling very uneasy about the boy’
