Isabel followed behind closely to see what would happen next. Matilda found Eric in the dining room, his long, gleaming hair shimmering under the ceiling lights. Eric, oblivious to their entrance, remained engrossed in his meal.
Turning to her daughter, Matilda mouthed the question, “What’s his name?” She moved her lips barely without a voice but Isabel could read her lips.
Isabel whispered her response likewise, “Eric.”
Matilda, now facing Eric again, greeted him cordially, “Hello there, Eric.” She waited with anticipation, curious to see his reaction.
Eric turned, his expression reflecting the sudden intrusion. The unexpected appearance of this stranger, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Isabel, piqued his curiosity. Instinctively, he could tell that she was a significant person in Isabel’s life.
