“Need some help?” I heard a voice at my back. I turned around and looked at Jeff.
I walked toward the kitchen and carefully placed the empty tray at the table. “I’m okay here, thanks!” I assured him.
“Looks like you’ve adjusted to your new job?” he said, leaning his back at the sink and crossing his arms around his chest.
“Yeah, I need to. I wasn’t selected for the job,” I uttered, words struggling from my mouth.
He nodded. “I know it’s hard for you to pretend that you’re okay. Everyone has their limit. You can refuse if you’re tired,” he added.
I started to ignore his statement, keeping myself busy and pretending an emotion I could not really feel.
