I winked at her slowly, letting the promise hang in the air. I made sure to savor the view of her pale, trembling expression, her wide eyes filled with raw fear, until I was satisfied. Then I yanked the Lumiere Duo from her shaking hands and turned back to the manager, who was also trembling, her posture rigid, her hands clasped tightly in front of her as if trying to hide how badly they shook.

“Why are you all shaking like weak, plucked broiler chickens?” My voice cut through the silence like a whip. “Does the person standing before you look like a demon? Or are you all just pathetic little cowards who only know how to bully when you think you’re safe?”
