Chapter 56

Dean’s POV

We come back around the side of the reception still catching our breath, and the first thing I hear is somebody laughing, half-joking, saying something about this wedding turning into the Bermuda Triangle — people just disappearing left and right.

I don't clock it at first. Then I see Luke and Roxie out past the tables, moving fast along the edge of the garden, calling a name.

"June?" Roxie again, cupping her hands around her mouth. "Junebug?"

She doesn't look scared yet. Luke does. I catch it in his face before he even notices I'm back — something tight, something that's already further along than Roxie's is.

"Hey." I jog over, Marie right behind me. "What's going on?"

"Can't find June." Roxie says it easy, still mostly unbothered. "She was chasing that cat around twenty minutes ago, figured she just wandered off with it somewhere."
