Authors POV

Tracy woke up the next day with a soft flutter in her chest. Her first thought was of him—of waking up beside the man her heart beat for. A smile almost curled on her lips… until she turned to the side and met emptiness. Cold sheets. No warmth. No trace of him.

Her heart skipped a beat. She jolted upright, pulling herself into a sitting position, eyes scanning the room quickly—desperately. But there were no signs of his belongings. No clothes. No watch. Not even his cologne lingering in the air.

Panic stirred in her stomach.

He left…

He really left.

“How could he leave without a word? What could be so important?” she whispered to herself, throwing off the covers and stepping out of bed.

The clock read past 10 a.m.

She forced herself to calm down, convincing her heart that he might have left for the office early. Maybe something urgent came up, and he didn’t want to wake her. Maybe he thought she looked peaceful sleep
