Emma stared at Hardin taken aback by his reaction, "Is something the matter? We talked about this in your car remember, the wedding proposal and I said yes."

"I was telling you what my mother suggested not asking you," Hardin pointed out with a puzzled look. 

His mother had informed him to get married as he wasn't getting younger, he knew what his mother was driving at was for him to have a child.

 He had mentioned it to Emma as a joke and even chipped in that his mother had mentioned her name in the conversation.

Emma had joked about how they would make a lovely couple since they were childhood friends and how their wedding would be the talk of the town but it was just a conversation so why was she acting this way and in front of June?
