Even though my thoughts were on the cutting edge, I backed them. Although I wasn’t the happiest bride, I wasn’t the most unhappy either. And Vincent was no help to me.

Wow, what a man to defend his wife!

It committed me to follow the advice my therapist had provided me to set limits and abide by them.

“No, I said I want red. And red is going to be,” I informed my mom in a lofty tone.

“But darling, red is just so...predictable, as I mentioned.” How about white, then?”

“I don’t care. I like red and that’s that!”

But she stood firm. Her lips grew narrower, and I had the impression that she was evaluating me. “Ivory, in my opinion, would be ideal. White with a touch of ivory. Red is unsuitable for a wedding, if you ask me. It’s a wedding, not a Halloween party, for Christ’s sake!”

Well, I didn’t ask you. I wanted to scream.
