I nod, remembering the story he had shared about his past. Mrs. Linn had been his guiding light during the darkest moments of his life.

"Carla, Mrs. Linn is not just a woman who helped me. She's my foster mother." Carter's voice quivers with emotion as he speaks.  

My eyes widen in surprise as I try to comprehend the magnitude of his revelation.
