He was staring at the phone.
She had agreed to meet the Mafia Don, he thought, with a sigh of relief as he read the terse message from the woman who dominated his thoughts. He glanced at himself in the mirror again. His white shirt with the dark jacket hugging his lean muscular body made him look handsome, as Lou had said critically this morning, watching him dress.
And the golden hair, silky and thick, which he kept a little longer than his brother Claude, only heightened his appearance, that of an angel, as his sister Tara was wont to say.
Not that Piers was thinking of his looks that morning. He was tense, and majorly so. The woman he loved, for make no mistake about it, Piers Delano was in love, deeply and wholly, with no hope of ever having his love returned, he thought to himself bitterly as he lit another cigarette with shaking hands.
Bitterness was just below the surface; he thought of what she had told him that last night
