In the afternoon, Cassandra met with the Taylor Group’s chief attorney to draft an agreement.

But instead of heading straight to Gerald afterward, she went back home and asked Ms. Hooper to teach her how to cook.

Thinking back to the rare meals she had shared with Damien, Cassandra tried piecing together his preferences. After some mental guesswork, she jotted down a few dishes and got Charlotte to show her how they were made.

The next morning, she brought the attorney with her to meet Gerald at his favorite teahouse.

“Grandpa Hawthorne, take a look at this agreement. If you’re fine with it, just sign your name. Once it’s done, I’ll ask my dad to drop the lawsuit,” Cassandra said, pulling three identical copies from a file folder and laying them in front of him.

She had reminded him in advance to bring a legal advisor, so Gerald gave his lawyer a small nod, signaling him to go through the documents.
