She jerked her head around, a chilly glint flashing through her eyes.

“Mr. Carter, hand over the phone,” she said flatly, hand outstretched.

“I’m afraid I can’t do that just yet.” Ethan gave a gentle smile, but his tone brooked no disagreement.

Noticing the passcode screen, his brow furrowed slightly.

“What are you doing?” Cassandra asked, clearly on edge.

She tried to grab the phone back, but he dodged her easily.

“Need to confirm something,” he replied bluntly, eyes locked on her face, reading every flicker of emotion.

He tried a few password guesses by instinct—none worked.

Her expression stayed icy, trying to play it cool, but her heart was pounding like crazy.

She remembered she had logged into Faye’s WhatsApp and Twitter accounts the night before—and forgot to log out or clear the data.

Knowing how sharp Ethan was, given how suspicious she’d been acting lately, it wasn’t strange he’d zero in on her.
