Just as Lilah was about to speak, the sharp click of heels echoed from behind.

The sound was really piercing. Lilah instinctively stepped back a bit to keep some distance from Gabriel, then turned around.

Violet, in a strapless evening gown, was strolling toward them at a slow pace.

“There you are, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace,” she said with a glance at Lilah.

She walked over to Gabriel with a concerned look. “Had a little too much to drink? Stepped out for some air?”

“Is there something you need, Miss Hughes?” Gabriel asked coolly.

“Not really. Just hadn’t had the chance to congratulate Ms. Hart on her new role as vice president at Wallace Corp.”

Violet smiled faintly and turned to Lilah with faux politeness. “Congrats, Ms. Hart.”

“Thanks,” Lilah replied mildly, keeping things civil.

“Since Hughes Enterprises and Wallace Corp work so closely, I guess going forward, I’ll be contacting you directly,” Violet said with a sly smile.
