Damien Hart’s face turned a bit more serious as he looked over at Lilah Hart.

Lilah let out a soft chuckle and playfully tapped Aiden Wallace on the head. “Of course your uncle isn’t just ‘some guy.’ He’s family.”

“Then, Uncle, I want a remote-control plane. Can you get me one for my birthday?” Aiden’s voice was soft and sweet as he asked for his gift.

“Sure thing. No problem.” Damien smiled and adjusted his glasses. Then he turned to his sister. “And what about you? Got anything in mind, Lilah?”

“Me?” Lilah looked puzzled. “It’s Aiden’s birthday… why would I get a gift?”

“Because that day was your toughest day too,” Damien replied with steady eyes behind his glasses. His obsidian irises had a faint reddish tint, filled with hidden sorrow.
