Chapter 146. He Fell Harder
Xerina’s POV
I blinked, my eyes fluttering open to the dim light filtering through the room. Everything was still. Quiet. My body felt heavy, like I’d been submerged in water, but the panic was gone, replaced with an odd sensation. A dull ache in my limbs. A strange tingling in places I shouldn’t feel.
My fingers trembled as I brushed the covers away from me. I was alone. The room was unfamiliar, but something about it made me feel safe. My heart, though still racing, wasn’t pounding in my ears anymore.
I sat up slowly, trying to piece together the fragments of my dreams, the flashes of blue eyes, of heat, of pain. It all felt distant now, like a shadow lingering on the edge of my consciousness, too far to grasp but too close to forget.
The sheets were soft against my skin, but I couldn’t shake the strange feeling. The tingling. Like electricity humming under my skin, but only in certain places. Places that made my cheeks burn.
What had happened?
