Five years later…
The warm rays of the afternoon sun poured through the wide-open windows, casting a golden hue over our living room. A soft breeze carried the scent of pine and wild flowers from the forest just beyond our home. Laughter echoed from outside, and I could hear the sound of small feet pattering across the lawn, followed by the deep, rumbling voice of my mate, Rasmus.
I smiled to myself, one hand resting on my round belly as I leaned against the doorway, watching the scene unfold. Five years had passed since that tumultuous wedding night, since the battles we fought, and the enemies we overcame. Five years of peace, of love, of building a family that felt too good to be real sometimes.
“Papa! Look at me!” Our eldest son, Caelan, shouted as he tried to climb a tree. His little legs dangled precariously from one of the lower branches, but Rasmus was right there, his hands ready to catch him if he slipped.
