The answer would break her. She was already shattered, but this would make it worse.

I looked at Zachary, his gaze fixed intently on her. It was unfortunate, everything they had to go through. Fate hadn’t been kind to either of them.

Neither of them deserved to suffer like this, especially after everything they had already endured.

Zach had been chosen as the one with the rare bloodline and I hadn’t even told him yet. He didn’t know he was the cause of everything they were going through. He didn’t know he was the reason they had to be separated.

I feared what would happen when he found out.

“Why are you not talking?” Daphne asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.

Her voice sounded impatient, but I could hear the desperation beneath it. She was waiting for an answer that might change everything.

I looked at her for a few seconds before letting out a deep breath, lowering my gaze. It was better she knew the truth now, while the
