Chapter 4
Elina's POV
The following morning, I assembled my weak bones, picked up my stressed ass, and helped my weak body to the bathroom; all my body ached; I could barely bend over; a little girl who had just delivered a baby in not later than 42 hours received no help from anybody; my pack abandoned me because of stupid tradition.
It still feels like a dream to me how my whole life changed for the worse within a minute. It was as if the universe hated me and the moon goddess despised me. People whom I am better off than call me a rogue whore; maybe if I had listened to my father's concern, I wouldn't be here today, but I am more than happy with my decision."Where is she? Where is that whore?"
The head nurse kept shouting like a woman who had just lost some coins to roadside pickers: "What the fuck is damn with this woman? What does she have against me? Did I steal her puppy? I mean, she is very mean to me." I had to rush out of the bathroom with my body poorly drained; I had barely scrubbed well; I had soapy foams at the back of my earlobes; I wouldn't want her hurting my poor innocent child; I will fight with my last breath to protect my baby.
With her curly, ugly hair laying on her shoulders, she rolled them over to her back while flicking through my charts, and just as always, she had her oversized eyeglasses lapping on her nose while she looked at me without hiding the disgust she felt for me.
"You are doing well now based on your chart; we will report to the doctors in charge of your case for approval to discharge you." She said with her wrinkled face.
"Wait, wait, nurse, please can I get some analgesics? My body aches a lot." She hissed!
Without even looking at me, she walked fast out of my sight. What's with her, really?
"Is an old tale girl; she wouldn't help you save her damn ass; they are like that." A lady spoke behind me, looking at me. She is probably in her late 30s. She had blonde hair and brown skin and looked nice. She was with two boys; the boys should be 12 and 14 years old, respectively, and the older one had cute green eyes looking cute in his bob hair. With my mouth gulping open, I gazed at her in surprise.
"My name is Sheila." The woman said to me,
"Elina, nice to meet you," I tell her
"I have literally been here, observing the way she talked to you. Ooh my bad, his name is Zury, my second son, and over here is Zain, my first son."
"Oh ma'am, welcome to our forsaken world, the world of rejections and negligence!" His son said while he looked so disappointed. "Shut up, Zain," she told him.
While still looking very confused at them, I grabbed my baby so tightly to my chest that I felt a bit paranoid. I needed no wise dude to tell me they are from the hilly city. Mountain Hilly City is a city populated by wolves that fall pregnant with a wolf that is not their mate. I have known about them since I was six years old, and my father would always tell me about them. The city is approximately 300 miles away from our city.
"You know you don't have to waste your time asking for help from them; apart from the assigned official roles, they give a damn about you."
"But why not?" I felt so disheartened.
"They are supposed to; I mean, they are paid to help us." I told her. She began as she got closer to my bed. "Just forget about getting any help from them; I have been here with my boys since yesterday, and none have barely looked at me. My son here, Zuri, has a fracture on his right leg, and he has been in so much pain. Thanks to one of the neutral nurses who helped us with paracetamol, he feels a lot better."Putting her soft hands in an animal-skin leather bag, she brought out a fancy blue food flask.
"Take this; I know you must be famished."
"I am used to them and their discrimination; I came prepared knowing they would not give me food; as a mother, if I came alone, I may not bother, but having these two kids here with me is a thing."
My stomach instantly started grumbling at the sight of the food; I opened the flask cover myself without even letting her do so for me; that little quiet why girl thing disappeared for a moment; I haven't eaten a well-cooked meal in weeks; this is definitely the miracle I had envisioned to manifest.
"Is this your first child? She asked I nodded with my hands in my mouth; I actually would love to eat without interruptions whatsoever, if she knew right!
"Which pack are you? Your aura smells so strong."
On hearing this question, my spoon left my hands. I gently looked up, confused about whether I should tell her or not—how would she feel if I told her I am of the Alpha blood type? I am enjoying this friendship, and I wouldn't want her to feel less of herself. Alpha families are the strongest and most respected family in a pack; apart from Luna and Beta, other hierarchies always feel less of who they are. What is the point of lying to her; after all, we are not from the same community? "II am an Alpha," I said to her. "No wonder the strong aura you exude." She spoke softly as she looked away.
What aura? She doesn't know; I scent no aura; I haven't shifted either, so I am vulnerable.
"I am a rogue just like you; my original pack is the Dark Moon pack. I was banished from my city when the clan found out that I fell pregnant to someone who is not my mate; they showed me no pity, and the worst of them all were the other female wolves, especially the ones who haven't found their pack yet; they became so furious with me that their mate could probably be the man I am carrying his child." "Have you shifted?" I coughed while I emptied a glass of water beforehand.
"I have not; my pack the shadow moon packs we shift at their 18th birthday for the girls, and for the boys, it is usually on their 14th birthday. Also, unlike every other person in the pack, her shift only happens on full moon days. Alpha blood shifts anytime after the first shift."
"No wonder you didn't realize while the head nurse was biting at you, she sensed your aura, and she is one of the wolves whose mate has a child with a rogue." "But she wasn't just the only one who bettered at me."
"She instilled disgust and hatred in their hearts. She tells them about you while their actions toward you indicate that they are our enemies. You must be careful when you meet one; they can kill you if allowed to." "Do you have a place to go from here? Like a refugee camp where rogues live?"
"No. no, I don't think it is an issue for now; I have my big Jeep, and I will be sleeping in there with my baby for the time being."
"I would have helped you out; you see, I live with my two sons and my mother's ground mother, an old witch that has refused to die; she is very annoying, and you don't want to experience her troubles."
