Chapter 129
Serena POV
The pounding at the door shook through my bones. The men outside were shouting like animals with their fists crashing against the frail wood, and I knew it wouldn’t last much longer.
My hands trembled as I gripped the gun, pointing it straight at the door. I’d never held a gun in my life, and my fingers felt wrong on the metal, but I remembered enough movies to know the safety thing had to be off.
“Please, God,” I whispered, “let this work.”
The door shuddered again with dust falling onto my hair, and my heart slammed in my chest, and in panic, I pulled the trigger.
BANG!
The blast ripped through the bathroom, so loud it deafened me, and my arms jerked back with the recoil, nearly knocking the gun from my hands. I gasped, clutching it tighter with my ears ringing.
“Holy shit,” I whispered to myself. “I actually fired it.”
A scream came from the other side, and the men cursed.
“She’s got a gun!” one of them yelle
