Ally's POV

The air is thick with tension, the scent of pine and anger twining together like unfriendly serpents. Elliot stands before me, his eyes no longer wild with the feral madness that had overtaken him but still burning, embers of a fire banked but not extinguished. I reach out a hand, my fingers trembling slightly, and place it on his chest where his heart beats at a rapid pace against my palm.

"Elliot," I whisper, and there's power in the softness of my voice, a strength wrought from nights under the moon's caress and days spent wrestling with my own inner fears. "Look at me."
