The wind teased Camila’s long, dark hair as she and Travis ambled through the sun-dappled park, her laughter mingling with the rustle of leaves and the distant chatter of other strollers. The joy that bubbled up within her was a bright, effervescent thing—a feeling she hadn’t embraced in what felt like lifetimes. “Travis, look!” Camila squealed with childlike excitement, pointing at a group of children chasing one another around a cluster of balloons. Her deep brown eyes sparkled with delight as she tugged on his arm, pulling him toward a vendor selling cotton candy. “Can we get some? Please?”
