It’s been two days now. Two days since I’d last seen her. I was worried sick that day she’d gone for lectures and hadn’t returned. I’d paced the floor a dozen times and checked the window a million for any sign of her. Erlind, her son, had bawled his eyes out, wanting the attention of his mother.
The poor baby had refused to eat properly, moreover the breast milk she’d kept preserved had been for just that day and it was finished. If not for his boy’s kind nanny who had solicited for milk from other breastfeeding mothers, God knows what might have happened to him. Where was she? Where are you, Issahil? Who had taken you?
The shrill ring of the telephone on my desk jolted me back to reality and I steadied my heart rate to pick it. I hoped it was her. “Hello?”
“Hello Mr. Bradt.” It was the private investigator I’d hire yesterday to help me look into the case.
