Blair’s POV
Exhaustion tugged at me, but resentment wasn’t there. Not when my sweet boy, nestled in his bassinet, smiled up at me the moment I entered his gaze. We settled on the bed, and I lowered my tank. Nathan latched on instantly, as if I’d starved him for days. In reality, it had only been hours since his last feeding.
Growth spurt, my internet searches proclaimed, explaining his sudden need to nurse around the clock.
Since Nathan’s arrival, a hundred moments have made me yearn to call my mother, to ask questions and seek reassurance. But that door remains closed. Opening it might mean it can’t be shut again, not when she finds out about her grandson.
The automatic doors whooshed open as I pushed the stroller into Starbucks. Samuel spotted me from across the room and made a beeline, arms outstretched. I knew the routine—this wasn’t a hug for me.
