“Are you ready to make the call?”
I eyed Denise, who was trying far too hard to control the rage simmering in her eyes. The resentment pouring out of her glare could have burned a hole through my skull.
“Do I have a choice?” She spat the words out coldly.
I stepped further into the room. “Yes, you do. Assuming you want to spend the rest of your life in prison with your would-have-been stepmother.”
“I don’t even know who the hell that woman is, but I’m sure she’s a better bitch than you.”
