Chapter 4
She used running as a distraction. It cleared her mind and put her at ease.
She ran through town, trying to get an idea of where everything was. She hated being in a new place where she didn’t know the layout. After familiarizing herself with the center of town, she turned on her heel and decided to cut through the woods to get home quicker.
Brooklyn frowned when she realized she had been running for a long time, and the sky was starting to darken.
Her music was blaring as she ran through the woods, so she was completely unprepared when she crashed into a chest.
“Jesus!” Brooklyn cried in shock and looked up with wide eyes as she stumbled back from the person she had crashed into. “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going—” she gasped when her foot caught a branch sticking out of the ground and squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the ground to swallow her up.
