Chapter 37
“For what happened with Josh. If you weren’t there—”
“But I was,” Harry said sharply. “Don’t think about what would have happened, Brooklyn.”
Brooklyn nodded.
Once all the food was gone, Harry cleared away the rubbish, and Brooklyn drank the rest of her water. She looked around Harry’s room and spotted a pack of chewing gum on his bedside table.
“Don’t mind if I do,” she whispered and picked up the packet, putting a piece of chewing gum in her mouth.
When Harry returned to the room, he looked at the chewing gum packet in Brooklyn’s hand, and she grinned sheepishly.
“Gum?” she said, holding the packet out.
“Since you offered,” he said sarcastically and took the packet. He then sat down on the bed, and Brooklyn lay back, looking up at Harry.
“Why am I here?”
“Where else could we go?”
Brooklyn frowned. “Maybe I should go.”
“You can go,” Harry said. “But only if you really want to.”
Brooklyn looked into Harry’s eyes
