JUNE

My heart hammered in my chest at those words, said seriously with weight on them. It felt as if my heart was about to lunge out of my chest.

I slowly raised my head to look at him, noting how serious he looked. The set of lines on his face, and how he sat up straight, made me know that whatever he wished to say must be serious.

“What is it?” I asked in a gentle tone, trying not to let my emotions show.

He sighed, running his fingers through his hair once more as he nervously tapped his right foot on the floor.
