The next afternoon the house was quiet again. Amanda had left at dawn, some early booking she couldn’t cancel, and Enzo had stayed, crashing on the couch like he belonged there.
I’d spent the morning pretending to sleep, hiding under the covers, trying to ignore the ache in my chest that had nothing to do with how sore my body was.
Eventually I came downstairs in one of Adrian’s old T-shirts I’d stolen months ago and a pair of cotton shorts.
Enzo was in the kitchen, shirtless, purple hair tied back, making coffee like he owned the place. He didn’t say anything when I walked in, just slid a second mug across the counter toward me.
We drank in silence for a while. Then he set his cup down, leaned back against the counter, and looked at me, really looked, like he could see straight
