Chapter 60. Enzo, Always Available

I hit the call back before Enzo could even process everything I just unloaded.
I said the second he picked up. “Tell Adrian to stay wherever the fuck he is with his ring and his guilt. You come over instead.”
A beat of silence.
“Me?” Enzo asked, voice low, careful.
“Yeah. You. I’m home alone. Bored out of my skull. The door’s unlocked. Bring whatever you want, booze, weed, just get here.”
I didn’t wait for an answer.
“Or don’t,” I added, softer, almost daring him. “But I could actually use someone who doesn’t run away the second the sun comes up.”
Then I hung up again, turned into my driveway, and left the porch light on.
Your move, Enzo.
I left the front door on the latch, porch light glowing soft yellow against the dark, and headed straight upstairs.
The bathroom filled with steam in seconds. I cranked the heat until the mirror fogged and the air felt thick enough to swallow everything else.
